I’ve owned a couple of prime telephoto’s and one rather over sized super-telephoto (weighing in at over 12 lb and over half a meter !). I’ve also owned both versions of the Nikon 80-400.
I’ve spent the weekend with the fairly newly released Nikon 200-500 f5.6. Some of it in a wildlife hide with the lens on a tripod (and VR off) and some of it wandering the local fields (with VR on).
My thoughts from the weekend based on my one copy of the lens. This lens is great fun to use. It’s light enough to transport around and takes a sharp and contrasty image. The vibration reduction seems to work very well.
I got no great pictures this weekend, these are just some snaps – all shot at f5.6 and at 500mm.
